What is the cost?
Drivers' education training, classroom and behind-the-wheel, is $300 cash or check. There is a $10 discount if the amount is paid in full on the first day of class.
All fees must be paid in full before the student will be scheduled to drive.
When are classes held?
The first class will be set by Drive Time with subsequent classes scheduled by your instructor, with input from you and your classmates.
How are classes scheduled?
The first class is set by the instructor. The remaining class sessions are set during the first class with the student's input, attempting to avoid conflicts for as many students as possible. Typically classes are scheduled over a two-week period during the school year.
What if I need to miss a class?
Students with busy schedules are not penalized in any way for missing a class. You will be given a make-up date when the missed class will be offered again, either in the other location or the following month.
What will I be learning in the classroom?
Our curriculum is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Material covered in class includes understanding roadway signs, signals and markings, how to better manage risk, negotiating intersections, expressway driving, urban and rural driving, handling emergencies and the effects of alcohol and drugs while driving.
When is the 50 hours driving with a parent to be completed?
The 50 hours with the parents can be completed at anytime. The eight hours with the instructor do not count towards this requirement. We do tell the students in class that we would like for them to have at least 35 hours of driving with their parents before we take them for the behind-the-wheel lessons. This accomplishes two goals: they are better prepared to be in a car with an instructor and they can finish with us and take the driving test within a week while the info is still fresh in their minds.
How is behind-the-wheel training scheduled?
An instructor will contact you to schedule your sessions. Times will be set that meet both your and the instructor's schedules.
What can I expect when driving with an instructor?
During the eight hours of behind-the-wheel training, we offer a personalized plan of instruction based your driving skill. Your instructor will offer helpful suggestions and encouragement. Extra attention will be paid to correct problem areas. All instruction is done with only one student in the car, so the entire drive can be focused on you.
Where will I go on my drives?
You will drive on rural roadways, through intersections, in higher traffic areas and onto the interstate. We practice skills including smooth starts and stops, turns, curves, lane changes, maneuverability (cones) and parking.
What should I bring with me when I drive?
You must carry your permit with you at all times when driving (as required by law,) wear your corrective lenses (glasses or contacts) if required and wear solid shoes (no sandals or flip-flops.)
